Chimera
What is Chimera?
The Chimera is a mythical beast combining the head of a lion and the body of a goat with a serpent for a tail. Schnauzers often resemble other animals (with their goat beards, horse-like presence when standing proud, sleek seal snouts when swimming, and ridiculous monkey antics, to just name a few). Chimera (Kai-meer-uh) has also come to mean "a foolish idea," which sometimes strikes me as an apt description for a life in dogs, especially when the Schnauzers are laughing at me ...

Welcome to Chimera!

Chimera Standard Schnauzers is a very small hobby kennel located in Wisconsin, U.S.A.

Our love affair with Schnauzers began over a decade ago. When we got our first Standard Schnauzer, I was not only smitten by her, I also found myself bitten by the dog show bug. Chimera Standard Schnauzers grew out of my passion for my own dogs and my growing engagement with Standards as a breed and the international community of Standard Schnauzer fanciers.

Through Chimera, I hope to share my love of the breed with others, to help potential "victims" of the Standard Schnauzer "bug" decide if the Standard is the dog for them, and to positively contribute to the present and future of the breed thorough conscientious, careful breeding and placing of Standard Schnauzers.

At Chimera, we love Standard Schnauzers: Black or Pepper & Salt, natural ears or cropped, docked or natural tails. Regardless of their coloring or "styling," Standard Schnauzers are wonderful, funny, high-spirited, loving, loyal and, yes, sometimes challenging companions. We can't imagine life without them.

I hope you enjoy the site. Check back often for updates.

Do you own a Standard Schnauzer? If yes, then please participate in the Standard Schnauzer Club of America Health Survey.

Even if your dog is healthy, we need your help. We currently have data on 450 dogs and need 1600 dogs for the survey to be of future help to keep the breed healthy.
